I'm a professional musician now as a grown-up, but if someone had done that to me, I probably wouldn't have followed my passion. I'm also a professor and am shocked by colleagues thinking that the student productions are a reflexion of the professor. "Relax, it's about the students" got me thrown out of a faculty meeting once. I am a high school teacher, and sadly enough, that kind of behavior still goes on... As for a support group, I think I'm over the worst of it! It is nice to know that my story will reach people who may have been dealt similar blows by people in charge of nurturing them...With any luck, it will remind everyone who reads it that there is so much more going on in a child's world, and mind, than what is happening at the moment, which in this case is the recital performance.
